Built as Worcester's first "skyscraper", the main building was completed in 1897. It is a nine-story steel frame structure, faced with dressed white marble. The Renaissance Revival design was considered "the first modern office building in the City". Suites are available from 200 to 10,000 square feet.

The Commerce Building - 340 Main Street
The Commerce Building, Worcester's first "skyscraper", consists of two buildings connected with bridges on floors 3 through 9; both buildings are 9 stories each. The main building was built in 1896 and the rear portion of the building, referred to as the annex, was built in various stages from 1912 through 1930. The building is of extremely ornate, Renaissance Revival design.
There are restaurants, a coffee shop, a card shop and hair salon in the building, as well as a post office and break/vending room on the 3rd floor.
The building is serviced by four elevators in the front lobby and four passenger elevators in the annex, including a freight elevator.
Extensive renovations have just been completed in much of the public areas, with new carpet, paint and marble floors. Additional renovations are planned for the lobby and courtyard area.
The Commerce Building is in the historical district and the building itself is on the local and federal historical register.
There is a bus stop directly in front of the building and curb handicapped parking is approximately 75 feet from the front entrance.
